The Auditor General has found the Ministry of Health paid $11,962 in salaries to a non-existent staff over 14 fortnights in 2023.
This was stated in the Auditor Generals Report on Social Services Sector for 2023 that was recently tabled in Parliament.
The Auditor General report said the personal file of all appointees should be forwarded to the Principal Accounts Officer who will delegate to Accounts Officer Salary and Wages to create a salary file and then forwarded to the Salary Sections of the Ministry of Finance to issue an Electronic Data Processing (EDP) Number for that employee.
An audit found an unauthorized salary payment of $11,962 to an officer (EDP No. 93715) that did not exist in the Ministry’s Human Resource and Management Information System and Person-to-Post listing.
“Ineffective checks in payroll processing resulted in unauthorized paying of $11,962 to an individual who was not employed by the Ministry,” said the report.
“The Ministry should strengthen supervisory checks of payroll processing and ensure that the balance outstanding is fully recovered.”
The Health Ministry explained it its report that they have located the staff member concerned and reached an agreement to recover the amount.
