Eleven public holidays have been approved by the Coalition Cabinet.
The public holidays and its respective dates are:
- New Year’s Day – Monday, January 01
- Good Friday – Friday, March 29
- Easter Saturday – Saturday, March 30
- Easter Monday – Monday, April 01
- Girmit Day – Monday, May 13
- Ratu Sir Lala Sukuna Day – Friday, May 31
- Prophet Mohammed’s Birthday – Monday, September 16
- Fiji Day – Thursday, October 10
- Diwali – Friday, November 01
- Christmas Day – Wednesday, December 25, and
- Boxing Day – Thursday, December 26.
According to Cabinet, the dates for the 2024 public holidays were confirmed after consultation with the:
- Shree Sanatan Dharm Pratinidhi Sabha of Fiji for the celebration date of Diwali;
- Fiji Girmit Council to celebrate Girmit Day;
- Fiji Muslim League for the celebration date of Prophet Mohammed’s Birthday;
- Fiji Council of Churches for the celebration dates of the Easter Holidays;
- Ministry of iTaukei Affairs, Culture, Heritage and Arts on the celebration of Ratu Sir Lala Sukuna Day; and
- Office of the Solicitor – General for celebration of New Year, Christmas Day, Boxing Day, and Fiji Day.
