Minister for Rural and Maritime Development and Disaster Management, Sakiasi Ditoka called on traditional leaders in Rewa to bolster local governance, unity, and community resilience to align with the nation’s development objectives.

He made the comments yesterday while opening the Rewa Provincial Council Meeting.

He urged every village to develop a Village Development Plan that incorporates the voices of women, youth, persons with disabilities, and elders.

“Our unity as a province is vital to achieving the Government’s vision to work together in love, wisdom, and responsible stewardship of our God-given resources,” he stated.

Every village should have a Village Development Plan developed through inclusive participation, ensuring women, youth, persons with disabilities, and elders are heard.”

He added 62 percent of Fijians living in poverty reside in rural areas and stressed the need for community-driven planning and investment to address this challenge.

Mr Ditoka revealed that the Government has invested $104.7 million in Rewa from 2022 to 2025, with $36.6 million allocated for the current financial year.

The Rewa Province launched its 2025–2028 Strategic Development Plan during the council meeting.
