Members of the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) and Fiji Police Force have been deployed to Solomon Islands to assist with the country’s general elections.
In a statement, Fiji Police said this deployment was a testament of their longstanding engagement with the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF).
About 20 officers have been deployed from the mobile force unit’s tactical division, while 80 are from the RFMF.
A statement from the RFMF said the contingent comprised of highly trained personnel to support the Solomon Islands International Assistance Force (SIAF).
“The deployment underscores Fiji’s commitment to regional cooperation and the maintenance of peace and security in the Pacific,” the RFMF said.
“The RFMF troops and FPF officers are well-equipped and prepared to collaborate with international partners to address challenges and contribute to the ongoing peace and stability operations in the Solomon Islands.
“The RFMF extends its gratitude to the Solomon Islands government for their invitation to the Fiji Government and appreciates the support of the Fiji Government which reaffirms its dedication to upholding peace and security in the region.”
The joint taskforce was farewelled in Nadi by Home Affairs Minister Pio Tikoduadua last week.
