A 10 year old child is currently in hospital after a large tree fell and crushed the car the child was in.
The incident occurred along Wailoku Rd, Suva at about 5.40pm on Saturday.
Police confirmed that the vehicle was being driven by a 32-year-old woman, who had four children aged 4, 10, 12, and 13 on board as passengers.
The family was reportedly heading towards Princes Rd when the tree fell directly onto their vehicle.
“Four of the occupants were treated for minor injuries and have since been discharged,” police said.
“The 10-year-old remains in hospital under observation.”
Residents said several areas along Wailoku Rd are known to be hazardous, especially during adverse weather conditions.
Calls for improved road safety and maintenance have resurfaced following this latest incident.
Authorities are continuing investigations.
