Fiji Football Association chief executive officer Mohammed Yusuf says discussions are underway to increase the number of teams participating in the Fiji FACT.
Yusuf said discussions on accommodating the 10 teams in the 2022 Digicel Premier League was ongoing with the Fiji FA board members.
“They’re doing a comprehensive study on accommodating the 10 teams,” he said.
“The decision will be debated thoroughly. It might create a bit of a scheduling conundrum based on factors like rest period for the players.
“We could see some very interesting and exciting matches should the idea come to fruition. If the proposal is endorsed by the Fiji FA board, it’ll create an exciting tournament.
“There are so many important factors to consider.”
Fiji FA had previously stated that the top eight teams in the 2022 DPL points standings would be featuring at this year’s Digicel Fiji FACT that is scheduled to be hosted at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka.
The tournament is scheduled to start with the group matches from Thursday, May 26 to Sunday, May 29 before all the teams take a five-day break with the semi-finals scheduled for Saturday, June 4 and the final a day later.
Meanwhile, Suva is the defending champion after it beat Nadi 1-0 at Subrail Park in Labasa during the 2020 edition.
