A $1.8million grant made available to Government is aimed at strengthening local efforts to implement the Strategic Implementation Roadmap for Fiji’s Climate Change Act.

The strategic roadmap with the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change is a key framework guiding the country’s climate change initiatives.

Minister responsible Mosese Bulitavu said Fiji appreciated the European Union and Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI)  ongoing commitments to supporting Fiji’s national efforts to build resilience to climate change and further enable the transition to renewable energy,.

“This grant agreement will complement and further support the broader implementation of the European Union’s budget support package, which is provided in alignment with the objectives of the Climate Change Act,” he said.

“I am pleased to announce that 13 of the 17 parts of the Climate Change Act will enter into force in the coming days following the publication of the recently approved commencement notice. With this type of support from our partners in place, we continue to have greater confidence in proceeding with ambitious reforms and policy-based action.”

He said the partnership with the EU and GGGI spoke of Fiji’s commitment to tackling climate change with global collaboration.
