CONSTRUCTION work on the $1.3million new Nakama Irish crossing outside Labasa Town is well in progress, says acting Commissioner Northern Alipate Bolalevu.
Mr Bolalevu yesterday said the contractors were working round-the-clock to complete the project on time.
“Work at the crossing is well on track. Right now, gravelling and levelling is well underway and we hope to complete it as soon as possible,” Mr Bolalevu said.
“The million-dollar project is a much-awaited one because it’s expected to ease the flow of traffic for the people living there.”
In a Fiji Roads Authority statement issued earlier, it stated the crossing would also include new pavement and road surface of 30m on both sides and it would be over a metre higher than the previous crossing.
MAH Enterprises, a local subsidiary of the New Zealand-based Herbert Group, was awarded the contract for the proposed project. It was earlier reported the project was expected to be completed in March, this year.
