Police have forwarded an investigation file into alleged sedition involving former prime minister Voreqe Bainimarama and former police commissioner Sitiveni Qiliho to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP).
Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro confirmed the file was submitted in January.
“The investigation file was sent to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions on 7.1.26,” Ms Naisoro said in an email response.
The ODPP confirmed receiving the files initially in February 2023.
“The ODPP had received this file in February 2023 and after review of the evidence, it was returned to police with recommendations for further investigation,” a statement from the ODPP said.
“The ODPP confirms that the police has returned this file on 7 January 2026 for further analysis and advice on the matter, therefore the file is currently under review according to the standard ODPP procedures.
“Once the review process is completed, the ODPP will advise the police accordingly.”
Police last year confirmed that an inquiry had been launched into allegations that Mr Bainimarama and Mr Qiliho attempted to call for military intervention following the December 2022 general elections.
Reports confirmed the pair had called for a military presence on the streets of Suva while negotiations were under way between the People’s Alliance Party, the National Federation Party and SODELPA to form a coalition government.
