Israel is joining Fiji in its fight against the illicit drug trade.
During a meeting with the Israeli Foreign Affairs Minister Sa’ar Gideon Moshe at the 61st Session of the Munich Security Conference in Germany on Friday, Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka requested Israel’s assistance in the country’s war against drugs.
In response to the PM’s request, Mr Moshe agreed to provide patrol boats for security agencies to strengthen Fiji’s border controls.
According to Government, the last Israeli donated patrol boats was handed over to the Fiji Navy in 1987 with four Dabur class boats.
Discussions between the two leaders also focused on the establishment of a Fiji embassy in Jerusalem.
Mr Rabuka touched on a new embassy mentioning that the upcoming Cabinet meeting in Suva next week will focus on the opening of the new consular.
The Prime Minister also took the opportunity to thank the Government and the people of Israel for the support rendered to Fiji and its people over the years.
Meanwhile, Mr Moshe also extended an invitation to Mr Rabuka on behalf of the Government of Israel to visit the Holy Land as part of efforts to further strengthen our diplomatic relations.
