A 12-year-old boy from Nayavu Village in Tailevu is believed to have drowned in the Wainibuka River on Wednesday afternoon.
The incident occurred while he was swimming with friends.
Despite search efforts, the boy couldn’t be found on Wednesday. His body was discovered when the search continued the next day.
Authorities plan to conduct a post-mortem examination as part of the ongoing investigation.
The drowning toll so far this year stands at 18, seven less than for the same period last year.
The incident has prompted yet another call to parents and guardians to closely supervise and monitor their children’s activities.
