The Vodafone Fiji Fashion Week team held simultaneous workshops for aspiring student designers on Saturday, May 7, 2023 as part of its line-up of events and activities for its upcoming 16th show.
A total of 51 student designers from 20 schools from all over Fiji have registered for this year’s student designer competition.
The workshops were conducted to help prepare the students for the 16th edition of Fiji Fashion Week which will be held on the June 2 and 3 this year.
The workshop also enlightened the students on the designs that they needed to prepare for the Student Designer Fashion Show and to also help manage their resources and time while encouraging them to develop their skills in becoming established designers.
This year there was a 12 schools from the Central Division that attended the workshop held at the Fiji National University Samabula campus which were Adi Cakobau School (ACS), Gospel High School, Latter Day Saints (LDS) College, Lelean Memorial School (LMS), Marist Brothers High School (MBHS), Rampur College, Suva Grammar School (SGS), Saint Joseph’s Secondary School (SJSS), Sila Central College, Saraswati College and Vunimono High School.
Immanuel Munue from Mahatma Gandhi Memorial High School expressed his delight to be participating at this year’s student designer show at Fiji Fashion Week and to be representing his school for the first time.
He said he felt very happy and blessed to be representing his school as it was their very first time competing at the student designers competition at this year’s fashion show.
From the Western Division, there were eight schools that participated at the workshop which was held at FNU Namaka Campus.
These schools were Natabua High School, Drasa Secondary School, Votualevu College, Sangam SKM College, Nadi Muslim College, Magodro Secondary School and Jasper Williams High School. Rigieta Radrodro from Natabua High School highlighted that these workshops were a good stepping stone for young designers to explore and venture out into fashion as a career path.
Vodafone Fiji Fashion Week also stated that one of the objectives of hosting this workshop was to inspire students to pursue fashion as a career and to create a bridge for new and upcoming designers to breakthrough into the fashion industry and to also improve the standard of Fijian fashion on the world stage.
We are so thankful to Hosanna Kabakoro and Christina Soderberg, who assisted in facilitating the workshops and for sharing a wealth of knowledge to these aspiring young fashionistas.
We can now look forward to the segment of the show where these young and creative minds put their unique pieces together on the stage.
