Energy Fiji Ltd workers will now enjoy a 12 per cent pay increase — thanks to the efforts of the Construction Energy and Timber Workers Union of Fiji, after the inking of an agreement with EFL management yesterday.
CETWUF national secretary John Paul said the “battle” with EFL management began 12 years ago in 2011.
“This has been a long and hard fight, a long struggle that we have got through,” he said, acknowledging the solidarity displayed by the 500 EFL workers who were members of the union.
“We want to acknowledge the fact that the Coalition Government has actually brought back the rights of the workers.
“Had it not been the promotion of workers’ rights we would not have achieved what we’ve achieved today.”
Employment Ministry permanent secretary Jone Maretino Nemani said the outcome signaled significant progress in terms of tripartism in Fiji.
