INCLEMENT weather has caused delay in the completion of phase three of the Sawaieke sports complex in Sawaieke Village, Gau.

Republic of Fiji Military Forces Engineering Unit warrant officer Luke Soro said they had managed to complete phase one and two of the project.

“By next month, we are expected to hand over phase four to the Minister for Youth and Sports after we complete phase three works,” he said.

“Works on this project started in 2017, the delay is because of the bad weather, and it hinders our works.

“Sometimes we have to stop works for months because of the rain.

“The total cost of this sport complex is around $500,000 with a capacity to accommodate one thousand people.

“At this stage, we are only left with five military personnel to complete phase three. There were close to 20 personnel on the ground when we started works with phase one.

“The sports complex will include a volleyball and netball court, also a track. This will be a state-of-the-art sports complex for people here in Gau.”

Sawaieke Village headman Akariva Nabati said there were plans to host rugby tournaments once the complex was completed.
