A heavy rain alert remains in force for the greater Suva, Nausori and Tailevu areas, eastern parts of Ra, Naitasiri, and Serua-Namosi.

The Fiji Meteorological Service has also issued a  heavy rain alert for Lau Group, Lomaiviti Group and Kadavu, and nearby smaller islands.

This is due to a trough of low pressure that remains slow moving over the Northern parts of the group.

“Associated cloud and showers are expected to affect the eastern and northern parts of the country for the next few days,” said Fiji Met.

“Another trough of low pressure is anticipated to approach the group from the west later tomorrow.

“Showers becoming frequent and increasing to rain from tomorrow.

“Further into Saturday; expect occasional rain, heavy at times and thunderstorms.”

Possible impacts include flash flooding of low-lying areas, localised flooding of Irish crossing and informal settlements and some disruption to traffic flow and poor visibility both on land and out at sea.
