The Wardens Gold rugby team proved their dominance once again, taking home both the men’s and women’s Cups at the Fiji Bitter Yalovata Sevens on Thursday.
In a thrilling men’s final at Nasau Park, Levuka, the Wardens Gold edged Police Blues 18-15 to defend their title. The women’s team followed suit, claiming victory in their division to cap off an unforgettable tournament for the side.
Team manager Etonia Taivoce said the goal was clear from the beginning.
“We came here to defend our title, and that’s exactly what we did,” Taivoce said. “I’m proud of the hard work from both teams.”
The men’s final kept fans on the edge of their seats as Police Blues pushed Wardens Gold to the limit. However, the Wardens held their nerve, scoring the winning points in the final moments.
The Fiji Bitter Yalovata Sevens drew teams from across the country, celebrating grassroots talent and providing a platform for up-and-coming players. As the series progresses, all eyes will be on the Wardens Gold to see if they can maintain their winning streak.
