Netani Waqavatu of Tovata House took out the blue ribbon event during the Queen Victoria School athletics inter-house competition at the ANZ Stadium in Laucala Bay, Suva yesterday.

The 18-year-old said he was surprised that he won the senior boys 100 metres. “I was really shocked when I crossed over the finish line first. I never expected to win,” he said.

The Somosomo, Taveuni lad, who is related to Flying Fijians outside centre Semi Radradra, says he does not want to get ahead of himself.

“I will take the win here and build up towards the Tailevu Zone. I am not looking towards the Coca-Cola Games yet as I know I still have a big obstacle ahead.”
