In keeping the iTaukei tradition alive, villagers of Vuo today presented baskets of yams as their offering of first fruits to the Tui Labasa Ratu Jone Qomate at Naseakula Village.

Villager Viliame Gauna said the offering to Ratu Jone and the Tui Labasa family had been practised by their forefathers.

“We continue with the tradition today and we are teaching our children as well because this is part of our iTaukei culture,” he said.

“Every year we do this and we have reaped sweet rewards for upholding this culture which is also God’s teaching.”
