ATHLETICS Fiji’s president Filimoni Vuliwaqa expects a large number of athletes to attend tomorrow’s first  weekly Athletics Fiji competition for 2020 as the regular season begins.

Athletics Fiji president Filimoni Vuliwaqa said despite the delay they were keen to get things rolling.

“We would have preferred to have begun earlier but the safety of athletes was paramount,” Vuliwaqa said in regards to last year’s measles outbreak that had postponed all sporting events in the nation.

Vuliwaqa said they were expecting at least around 200 athletes to attend.

“With schools now back in session we expect our numbers to be high with both our senior athletes and student athletes who will be preparing for the Coca-Cola Games.”

The weekly competition begins at 8am tomorrow at the ANZ Stadium in Suva.
