MAN of the moment Iosefo Verevou stole the show as he scored two classic goals that helped his Rewa team defeat Jack’s Nadi 2-1 in the final of the Inkk Battle of the Giants held at Churchill Park in Lautoka yesterday.
The skilful striker showcased his goal scoring abilities when he beat one defender on the left corner near the corner flag and rifled in a powerful strike that caught Nadi goalkeeper Vereti Dickson by surprise only to see the ball at the back of the net.
His second masterpiece came in the 33rd minute of the second spell as he neatly tapped in a cross kick from his brother Epeli Saukuru beating Dickson.
Verevou dedicated his two goals to two special women —— his mother who was at the stadium yesterday and his best friend’s late mother.
He also dedicated the victory to the Rewa fans and to his loved ones in Naselai Village in Rewa.
“The two goals were scored through teamwork and without my teammates I would not have scored those goals,” said Verevou.
“Those goals are dedicated to my mum who is here supporting me not forgetting my best friend and Olympic teammate Setareki Hughes’ late mum.
“Even though Seta’s mum is no longer with us I believe she would be happy with our achievement.
“I also dedicate this win to all the people in my village at Naselai, Rewa.”
Verevou said he was grateful to have his older brother Epeli Saukuru playing alongside him in the final.
“We have been playing soccer together since our early childhood days and it feels great to be playing with my brother with our mother cheering for us from the grandstand. Soccer is our bread and butter and we have worked hard to reach this far.”
He also commended his teammates for the teamwork that enabled the side to lift the trophy back to Rewa.
