THE Ventures men’s side successfully defended the Marist Eastgate Memorial Hockey tournament title for the sixth successive year yesterday.
The side defeated Seals 5-0 in the final of the Geotech Drilling-sponsored event at the National Hockey Centre yesterday.
A brace of goals from Adrian Smith and Tevita King and a stroke from James Saqacala allowed the side to romp to an emphatic victory.
Team captain Leevan Dutta commended his players on a well-deserved victory saying their hard work had paid off.
“We played really well not only in the final but throughout the tournament,” he said.
“We did our basics right and that is why we are able to be in control.”
Meanwhile, a new champion was crowned in the women’s competition when Stingers beat Marist 1-0 in the final.
Defending women’s champions Ventures were bundled out in the semi-finals.
Marist Hockey Club official Martin Fong said the tournament was a huge success and it would not have been possible without the support of the sponsors.
