TOP 7s teams in Lautoka and Nadi will battle for the top award at the Veiyasana 7s tournament to be staged at Nadovu Park on Saturday.
Teams such as Nawaka, Momi Tigers, Western Suburbs, Mala Young Boys and Natabua are hot favourites to stamp their mark in the competition.
Tournament organiser Junior Tui said the tournament was for the Lautoka and Nadi teams to be exposed to more competitions.
He said the tournament was also aimed at keeping the players fit during the 15s off season.
“This tournament is specifically introduced to enable the players to have enough game time and most importantly to promote the sport in Lautoka,” said Tui.
“We also wanted to expose new talent knowing there are many untapped rugby talents here in the West.
“We expect tough games and exciting battle during the tournament as all top teams in Lautoka and Nadi will be part of the event.”
Tui said tournament such as this could unearth new talents since Lautoka has produced some fine players to ever grace our shores.
Lautoka players that started their rugby career from small 7s tournament such as this include Viliame Satala, Apolosi Satala, Diri Yalayala, William Ryder, Jasa Veremalua, Metuisela Talebula and Joji Ragamate.
A total of 32 teams will participate at the event.
