APOLONIA Vaivai is a prospect for Fijian weight-lifting at the Rio Olympics in August.
Vaivai showed her determination in the 69kg category when she went for a 114kg lift to snatch the gold medal away from arch rival and fellow Fijian Eilene Cikamatana yesterday.
Her win denied Cikamatana her third gold medal in the Oceania Weightlifting competition, who had earlier smashed two records in the championship.
Vaivai lifted 206kg for her golden lift after Cikamatana managed 205kg in her total.
Vaivai lifted 92kg in her snatch and 114kg in the clean and jerk.
Fiji needs to make the top five to send an athlete in each division to the Olympics from the sport.
Competition continues today.
