MINISTER of Infrastructure, Transport, Disaster Management and Meteorological Services Jone Usamate opened the University of Fiji’s International Symposium on Renewable Energy, Environment and Climate Change in Nadi this morning.

In his opening remarks, he said the theme of the Renewable Energy, Environment and Climate Change was timely given the contribution Fiji was making in the global arena to highlight the impact of carbon emissions on Small Island Developing States.

Mr Usamate said holding symposiums which brought together all the actors were important because the information shared would grow knowledge in the climate change discussion.

He said weather anomalies like Category 5 cyclones have become an annual phenomena since 2014 in the region and this and other events are signs that the climate change impact is affecting the most vulnerable communities.
