UNIVERSITY of Fiji Vice Chancellor Professor Sushila Chang has been terminated.

Chairperson of the University of Fiji Council Kamlesh Arya issued a statement yesterday, on behalf of the Council, saying he has written to Prof Chang regarding the cancellation of her work permit by the Department of Immigration on March 24 and the impact of this directive on her employment with the university.

Mr Arya said Prof Chang had been informed that due to the Immigration directive, which also declared her a ‘prohibited immigrant for an indefinite period’, she could not fulfil the terms of her employment contract with the university.

“Accordingly, her contract was deemed to have been terminated,” Mr Arya said.

Prof Chang, allegedly with the aid of two taxi drivers, breached the Lautoka lockdown restrictions and travelled to Nadi International Airport where she boarded and left in a flight to Sydney, Australia, last Friday.
