TEAM is in good hands and trust the process, is what two-time Olympic rugby 7s gold medallist Jerry Tuwai is urging the Fiji Airways men’s 7s team as they prepare for the Cape Town 7s in South Africa this week.
He made the statement following Fiji’s win on Monday, where they beat Spain 19-5 to lift the victor’s trophy after a nine-year winless drought in Dubai and 22 consecutive losses in the previous season of the 2023/2024 HSBC SVNS World Series.
“Trust the process, trust the coaching (staff), trust the management, and trust the system for getting the boys to go for the Cape Town 7s,” Tuwai said.
While the victory in Dubai was a long-desired one after a winless spell that may have turned the public support of the team, Tuwai has urged the players to maintain their level of consistency.
“Keep it simple, just put your feet on the ground and go again this week (for Cape Town),” Tuwai said.
As they prepare for Cape Town this week, Tuwai said the team under head coach and former 7s skipper Osea Kolinisau’s guidance was in good hands.
“It’s a good start for the boys, and the morale will be high right now,” Tuwai said.
“I know coach Oscar (Kolinisau) knows what he’ll be doing for the next few days to reset and refocus the boys to Cape Town.”
Meanwhile, Fiji is in Pool A for the Cape Town 7s with Great Britain and Uruguay.
