Training plans for healthcare workers in Morocco

PLANS are underway to have Fijians in the health sector undergo training in Morocco, says Moroccan non-resident ambassador to Fiji Karim Medrek.

Mr Medrek said this plan would be discussed in the next few months.

“I think Morocco is very keen and have all the political will to increase our co-operation in health, agriculture, education and tourism with Fiji.

“We already have given some scholarships for the education sector,” Mr Medrek said at the Familiarisation Visit Program for non-resident ambassadors and high commissioners accredited to Fiji event at the Grand Pacific Hotel in Suva yesterday.

“Fiji is a strategic partner for Morocco and the region as well.

We share many common values.

We work together and collaborate very closely in many fora.

“Both countries also work on the international fora on many global issues.”

He said bilaterally, both countries had an excellent relationship and there were many opportunities moving forward to increase both nations’ relations in many fields.

“Opportunities exist in tourism, health, education and agriculture sectors.

I think the distance between Morocco and Fiji is only geographical but we share common values.

“There is huge potential in tourism.

In our region we receive roughly 13 million tourists in a year.

We are a very touristic destination and Fiji is one of the most beautiful countries in the world and an attractive nation for tourists.

I think both countries can share our know-how and can be hub for tourism from our region to Fiji and in return, we can promote Morocco in Fiji.

“I think even we can develop capacity building between the two nations in hospitality, cuisine and arts.”

He added overall, the spectra of both countries’ co-operation would be very wide.
