THE Salad Bowl netball festival will expand next year, adding rugby and volleyball to its lineup.
Salad Bowl netball president, Judy Kumar, announced the plans following the success of this year’s event, which saw 36 teams competing in netball.
“Next year, we’ll introduce rugby and volleyball, and we’re looking to invite teams from Australia to play against Western teams,” Kumar said.
The goal is to give local teams more opportunities for competition and development.
“It’s not just about winning cash, but about giving development teams the chance to grow,” Kumar added.
This year’s event featured 12 Under-15 teams, 16 Open Grade, and 8 men’s teams, with the expansion promising to make the 2025 festival even bigger.
Kumar also acknowledged the importance of the event’s sponsors in making this year’s festival a success.
“A big thanks to Coastal Rentals, Salad Bowl Island Hire for paying the facility, KBL Buses, and Sigatoka River Safari’s Jay Whyte for their generous support, especially for sponsoring cash prizes for the U15 grade and the two best players.
” We also thank Fiji Sports Council for their kindness providing the venue.”
