Three people rescued at sea after a joint operation

JOINT efforts by Police officers, staff of Turtle Island Resort, Oarsman Bay, Blue Lagoon, Fiji Maritime Rescue Coordination Center and nearby villages resulted in the successful rescue operations of three fishermen from Nadolodolo Village, Tavua who were rescued in the Yasawa Waters yesterday.

According to police, the three were reported missing after they failed to return from a fishing trip in the Yasawa – I Lau waters.

On Thursday, Viliame Uqeuqe, Luke Vakatale and Maikeli Sivo managed to send out a text message to a fellow villager that they were experiencing trouble, whereby Police were informed and search and rescue efforts coordinated through the assistance of the three hotel operators.

A Turtle Island operated aircraft was deployed where they managed to locate the three and dropped life jackets and were later rescued by the Turtle Island resort boat.

They were taken to the resort and attended to by the staff nurse of Nacula and Teci and were were accommodated for the night at Turtle Island resort as requested by the manager.
