BANGKOK (Reuters) – Thailand’s Election Commission chairman said the unofficial results of a Sunday general election, with 95 per cent of the vote counted, will be announced on Monday at 10 a.m. (0300 GMT).

Ittiporn Boonprakong did not give a reason for the delay in the results, which had been due at 8:30 p.m. (1330 GMT) on Sunday.

Partial results posted by the commission earlier showed the pro-army party of junta leader Prayuth Chan-ocha leading with 7 million votes.

Close behind with 6.6 million was the main opposition Pheu Thai Party, which has won every election since 2001.

The partial result did not say how many of the lower house of parliament constituencies its results reflected.
