Ten to front court today over meth raids across three divisions

Ten individuals will appear in court today in connection with the alleged discovery of methamphetamine during a series of joint raids across the Central, Southern, and Western Divisions.

Eight accused persons will be produced at the Suva Magistrates Court, while two others will appear at the Nadi Magistrates Court.

The charges follow coordinated operations involving the Fiji Police Force’s Serious Organised Crime and Intelligence Department (SOCID), Detector Dog Unit, Mobile Force, and Immigration Department, with formal charges laid after consultations with the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP).

In the Flagstaff raid, a Fijian and a foreign national have been jointly charged with One count of Unlawful Possession of Illicit Drugs and One count of Possession of Property Suspected of Being Proceeds of Crime under the Proceeds of Crimes Act (POCA).

In the first  Rewa Street raid, three foreign nationals have been jointly charged with One count of Unlawful Possession of Illicit Drugs and One count of Possession of Property Suspected of Being Proceeds of Crime.

In the second Rewa Street raid aFijian and two foreign nationals face One count of Unlawful Possession of Illicit Drugs.

Additionally, One foreign national has been charged with Being a Prohibited Immigrant under Section 13(a)(b) and (2)(a) of the Immigration Act 2003.

Another faces an additional charge of Possession of Property Suspected of Being Proceeds of Crime under Section 70 of POCA 1997.

In the Namaka interception, two foreign nationals believed to be linked to the Southern Division cases have been jointly charged with One count of Unlawful Possession of Illicit Drugs.

All ten accused are expected to take the stand today, as investigations into transnational drug activity continue.
