Teen imprisoned for being in possession of drugs

NELSON Vakarorogo was today sentenced to nine months imprisonment by the High Court in Suva for drug related offences.

The 19-year-old appeared before Justice Chamath Morais convicted of one count each of being in possession of illicit drugs along with being in possession of property from proceeds of crime.

The Court heard that on Vakarorogo on June 15, 2018 without lawful authority possessed 905.2 grams of illicit drugs namely cannabis sativa.

On the same day he possessed and concealed $3900 of cash proceeds of crime.

Justice Morias said the drugs carried by the accused were meant for commercial purposes.

Vakarorogo has been given 30 days to appeal to the Fiji Court of Appeal.
