HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series commentator Karl Te Nana predicts a Fiji and Kiwi final at the Hamilton 7s tournament in New Zealand this weekend.

In an interview with this newspaper at the McDonald’s Fiji’s Coral Coast tournament at Lawaqa Park last week, the former New Zealand rugby 7s captain has a good feeling that Fiji will make a comeback and New Zealand will stand their ground as hosts.

“I think Fiji and New Zealand will be the team to beat,” he said.

“Last year we had more than 20,000 Fijian supporters and it was like their home ground and when they felt comfortable they were unstoppable and could create anything from anywhere in the field.”

Te Nana said New Zealand on the other hand would be patriotic and would not want to lose on their home ground.

“New Zealand has been consistent throughout the series and when they play on their own back yard, it will be a different story because it’s been a while they haven’t won a title in New Zealand, their last was in 2016 at the Wellington 7s,” he said.
