NADI cabbies claim the one-way road management system has reduced their income by up to 20 per cent. Newly-elected Nadi Taxi Association president Aslam Khan said the turnaround time for taxis operating in the central business district area had increased, resulting in loss of business.

“It is a big hassle and it is costing us money,” he said.

“It is confusing for everyone, there are no clear signs and the way they introduced it shows that it was not done with consultation.

“It is definitely not helping traffic flow, the traffic is moving but moving very slowly — and during peak hours in the morning and afternoon it is almost at a standstill most of the time.”

Mr Khan said under the previous two-way traffic system, cabbies were able to move around a lot easier and respond to customer calls very quickly.

“The way it is set up now, we have to go all the way around to pick up passengers, they need to discuss these types of things with us before implementing them.”

Questions sent to the FRA yesterday on the comments made by the association remain unanswered when this edition went to press.
