Ba Rugby Union is proposing the introduction of an injury insurance scheme for all its players at Club, Tikina and Provincial level.
“In essence, every active player in the province would need to register and pay an annual fee of $10 before being able to play,” Kautoga explained.
“These funds would cover all medical costs associated with injuries occurring from playing rugby in any BRU-administered tournament or for one of the three Ba representative sides.”
“This proposal mirrors the system that the Fiji Secondary Schools use very successfully. We are very grateful to the FSSRU for leading the way in this very important area of player welfare.”
The insurance would cover all medical costs related to injuries received whilst playing rugby in these tournaments, transport to hospital or doctor and all treatment until the player has recovered from the injury.
The fund would also cover medical services associated with Ba Rugby’s tournaments, doctors, nurses, medics, medical equipment, stand-by vehicles, and it would include modest payouts for disability and, in those extremely rare incidents, death.
“All such fees paid in by players would go into a dedicated and protected account at BRU’s bank that could only be used for medical causes,” Kautoga said.
