Red carpet treat for Fijian rugby fans, local and abroad, and the security forces families and loved ones in the hosting of the 2021 Ratu Sukuna Bowl competition.

The annual tournament between members of the Fijian security forces, namely champion Fiji Police Force and Fiji Military Forces, will be televised live by FBC TV on December 17 at the ANZ Stadium in Suva.

This following the signing of a memorandum of understanding signed yesterday by FBC chief executive officer Riyaz Sayed-Khaiyum and Fiji Police Force Commissioner Brigadier General Sitiveni Qiliho.

Sayed-Khaiyum said fans outside Fiji could watch the tournament on pay-per-view channel at a fee of US$10.

“We are very pleased to announce that we are going to televise the Ratu Sukuna Bowl live this year for the first time,” he said.

“It is a privilege for FBC to be involved in something so traditional. It comes at a very opportune time as the country opens up as we try to normalise on economic activity.”

Under the MOU, FBC will be exclusive radio and television broadcasters of the tournament providing live coverage on the FBC Sports channel via the Walesi digital platform, and live radio commentary on Bula FM.

“We will also provide this for overseas viewers via pay-per-view through Walesi at US$10 per subscriber. Revenue from this will be split three ways with Walesi, FBC and Police at 33.33 per cent.”

Qiliho said the tournament could be the needed break after months of lockdown.

“It is time to get out some good rugby to the people of Fiji,” he said.

“We have been through the pandemic and sustaining operations. This is a good time to go out and unwind with our families and friends in the new normal to deliver high entertaining rugby.”

Police are the defending champions of the Ratu Sukuna Bowl rugby.
