THE Fiji Bus Operators Association (FBOA) has called on the Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission (FCCC) CEO Joel Abraham to “stop fabricating stories” about the association’s election of office bearers.

In a statement issued over the weekend, FBOA president Nisar Ali Shah said comments by Mr Abraham in the media about the election were not true.

The FCCC chief executive officer had said that there were governance issues within the FBOA.

Mr Abraham had said that an operator met him and said that in the last election, 30 operators voted for one member and six voted for another and the six operators had 800 votes because they collectively owned 800 buses.

“Mr Abraham also suggested that in the previous FBOA AGM election, the votes of six operators had outranked that of 30 other operators because of the number of buses they owned,” said Mr Shah.

“This is clearly a falsehood because the candidates during last year’s AGM were all unopposed.

“The figures quoted by Mr Abraham are also false.”

Mr Shah said Mr Abraham should stop digressing from the real issue and inform the public and bus operators how he had calculated the fare increase.

“Such information is irrelevant to the issue at hand and illustrates well how Mr Abraham is misleading and shadowing the main issue of justifying the seven-cent per stage increase.”
