Solomon Islands won the Tri-nations International Friendly Series in Lautoka as they continued their unbeaten run with a 2-0 victory over the Fiji senior side on Sunday.
It was the Solomons first win over Fiji in 12 years and also their first-ever away win against the Bula Boys.
Striker Gagame Feni scored both goals for the on-form Solomon Islands, who followed up their wins over the Fiji U-20s (4-1) side and Vanuatu (2-0) in the competition.
In Sunday’s other match, Vanuatu defeated the Fiji U-20s 2-1 to finish second in the tournament.
Tony Kalotang scored after 10 minutes for Vanuatu with Joe Moses extending the lead shortly after the interval.
Gary Kubu got one back for the Junior Bula Boys but they couldn’t find an equaliser.
It was a disappointing tournament for both Fijian sides with the 2-2 draw between them the only points either team gained.
The game was one of several international matches in the region during the FIFA international window.
Elsewhere, Tahiti levelled the two-game series with French Pacific rivals New Caledonia with a 2-1 victory in Pirae, Tahiti on Friday.
New Caledonia got off to a flying start as AS Temanava’s Makalu Xowi scored in the first half.
However, Tahiti bounced back in the second half, with Roonui Tinirauarii scoring twice to secure the win.
Tinirauarii of AS Dragon is the top goalscorer in the Ligue 1 so far this season.
New Caledonia had won the first game between the teams 2-0 last week at the same venue.
In Wellington, Pacific heavyweights New Zealand ended a string of seven goalless games as they recorded an invaluable 2-1 win over higher-ranked China.
It followed a drab, goalless match between the two teams in Auckland last Thursday.
Last month, the Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) and the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) signed an agreement they say will see more matches between the two continents.
The OFC is also planning to launch an Oceania Professional League for the region’s top clubs.
