SIX Chinese nationals in quarantine were cleared to enter Fiji when they arrived from Hong Kong, says Fiji Airways.
In a statement issued yesterday, the national carrier confirmed the six passengers had travelled on their aircraft from Hong Kong to Nadi, and took another flight on the Nadi to Apia route yesterday.
“Fiji Airways notes that all six guests had originally only presented themselves in Hong Kong on Saturday, January 25 to check-in for flight FJ392,” said Fiji Airways in a statement.
“They were screened upon arrival into Nadi from Hong Kong, as per practice for inbound flights, and cleared by Fijian health officials.”
The airline confirmed the six were denied entry into Samoa because of the Samoan government’s health quarantine measures.
“Samoa has banned persons whose travel originates from countries declared ‘affected from the 2019 novel coronavirus’ within a 14-day period.
“Following their inadmissibility into Samoa, the six guests were returned to their originating port (Nadi) as per protocol.”
Fiji Airways said the group were denied entry into Samoa based on the special travel advice issued on January 24 related to the coronavirus outbreak.
“Fiji Airways will comply with any regulatory requirements from countries and ports it operates to, and respects the decision of Samoan authorities.”
