University of Fiji’s Dean of the School of Science and Technology, Professor Anirudh Singh has left the institution after four and a half years of service.

He was invited by UniFiji in 2017 to set up its Master’s program in Renewable Energy Management program.

Prof Singh was instrumental in fully establishing the academic and regulatory structure of the Masters course in Renewable Energy Management to train energy practitioners in positions of leadership, as well as introducing a pre-cursor program in renewable energy and environment.

“It is time to move on to a position from where I can serve the research and training needs of the region better,” he said.

“While we are working within an institution, we are all working for the institution.

“We all work for the university, and the interest of the university supersedes our personal opinions and ambitions.”

Mr Singh said he also campaigned for better laboratory facilities and a more robust research structure, resulting in a substantive increase in scientific research, publications, and dissemination activities.

“A highlight dissemination event was the International Symposium on Renewable Energy, Environment and Climate Change held in August 2019.”

He said the research output of the Masters course in Renewable Energy Management group contributed enormously to an edited book titled Translating the Paris Agreement into Action in the Pacific, published by Springer Nature. “I have no plans to take up another job in the conventional fashion.

“I will be very much engaged in trying to finish my next book for the next few months.”
