A 39-year-old man has become Fiji’s latest road fatality victim following a motor vehicle accident in Sigatoka on Friday.
Police said the victim was allegedly driving towards Olosara when he lost control of his vehicle, causing it to veer onto the opposite lane and collide with an oncoming vehicle.
Both drivers were rushed to the Sigatoka Hospital, where the 39-year-old died a few hours later.
The driver of the second vehicle remains admitted at Sigatoka Hospital as investigations into the accident continue.
Meanwhile, two people remain in critical condition at the Nadi Hospital following a separate three-vehicle collision in Martintar on the night of May 23.
Police said a 21-year-old man from Nadi allegedly overtook a vehicle driven by a 28-year-old woman, with the suspect’s vehicle clipping the side of her car.
The impact allegedly caused the woman’s vehicle to veer onto the opposite lane and collide with a third vehicle driven by a 42-year-old man who was travelling with two passengers.
The 42-year-old driver and a 38-year-old female passenger remain admitted in critical condition at Nadi Hospital.
The 21-year-old suspect and a 16-year-old boy, who was a passenger in the third vehicle, have since been transferred to Lautoka Hospital.
Police investigations into both accidents are continuing.
