Managing a smoothie bar in one of Nausori Town’s bustling streets was not how 26-year-old Marika Senilagakali envisioned the future.
At the outset, her knew that starting a business was going to be exciting and as an entrepreneur, he was deemed to face a fair share of obstacles.
With limited entrepreneurial know-how, the Lauan lad did not let discouragement pull him down.
Working alongside shop owner Nacanieli Rakotuinasigana, the pair was inspired to open “Pacific Haven”.
The newly opened bar is located next to ‘The Pork Shop’, which is also run by Mr Rakotuinasigana who currently resides overseas.
Pacific Haven offers an array of flavors including coconut, pineapple, celery, ginger, turmeric, banana, watermelon pawpaw smoothies – sourcing fresh, locally grown fruits and vegetables.
Mr Senilagakali said opening a smoothie business in Nausori town was a great idea as the town was located on the boarder of the three provinces of Tailevu, Naitasiri and Rewa.
He said he saw an opportunity to provide the community with nutritious, delicious, and natural beverages, emphasizing fresh ingredients and innovative flavors.
“Starting a fruit juice and smoothie business alongside the Pork Shop was inspired by a desire to diversify our offerings and cater to a broader range of customer preferences,” Marika said.
“While the Pork Shop specializes in high-quality meat products, I recognized a growing demand for healthy and refreshing options.
“By introducing a fresh fruit juice and smoothie line, the aim is to complement the existing business and offer a balanced selection that appeals to health-conscious individuals.”
Mr Senilagakali said Nausori’s central location and accessibility was a strategic decision as this made it convenient for sourcing local, high-quality ingredients.
“Being close to local farmers and markets ensures that we can offer the freshest products, supporting our commitment to quality and sustainability.
“This not only supports local farmers but also guarantees that our ingredients are at their peak freshness and flavor.
“Balancing the creative and business aspects of running a smoothie shop involves a combination of strategic planning, clear communication, and a focus on both innovation and efficiency.”
With only a week shy of opening, Marika said business has been “booming” as people have showed interest in his tropical fruit smoothie business.
“Our customers have provided a wealth of positive feedback, which has been instrumental in shaping and improving our business.
“Some common feedback we’ve received, that has influenced our operations, are quality and freshness, unique flavors and customisation, health-conscious options and great customer service.”
He said they hoped to build a strong, recognisable brand known for quality, health, and excellent customer service.
“Starting a business can be both exciting and challenging as the business world is constantly evolving.
“However, you must choose a business that aligns with your interests and passions.”
The young entrepreneur says to run a successful business, being passionate about your work and surrounding yourself with supportive mentors, advisors, and peers were vital.
“Stay curious, seek new knowledge, and be willing to adapt.
“Continuous learning and self-improvement will help you stay ahead of the curve.
“Also develop a detailed business plan outlining your vision, goals, target market, budget, and strategies.
“This plan will serve as a roadmap and help you stay focused on your objectives.”
