CHANDRA Segran, a household name in Fijian football, has been officially inducted into the Fiji Football Association’s Legends Club, becoming its 84th member.
Segran’s induction and outstanding contributions to football in Fiji and beyond.
Starting his journey in Rakiraki Nanuku, he rose through the ranks as a referee, instructor, and administrator, leaving an indelible mark on the sport.
In an interview with Fiji FA media, Segran shared his joy and gratitude.
“I am honored to be inducted into the Fiji FA Legends. I thank Fiji FA for recognising the efforts of former players and officials who have worked hard to put Fiji on the football map,” he said.
Fiji FA president Rajesh Patel lauded Segran’s achievement, highlighting his pivotal role in raising the profile of Fijian football.
“His efforts have elevated the sport both locally and internationally. This induction is a well-deserved recognition of his lifelong dedication to football.”
Segran began his refereeing career in 1980 and gained international recognition as a Fiji FA Assistant referee from 1912-1998.
His expertise saw him officiate high-profile matches, bringing global attention to Fijian talent.
In 1997, he was appointed a FIFA instructor, a role in which he mentored referees across the Pacific.
By 2000, he became Fiji FA’s referees’ development standards in the country.
Segran also had a profound impact on youth football, managing the Fiji FA Ba academy from 2001-2012, Segran’s legacy in Fijian football remains strong.
His induction into the Legends Club is a testament to his enduring influence and passion for the game.
Segran’s journey continues to inspire the next generation of footballers and officials, proving that dedication and love for the sport can create a lasting legacy.
