DEFENDING champions Seaqaqa is on course to defend the title in the Vanua Cup Muslim tournament held at Ratu Cakobau Park in Nausori.
The Azmat Begg-led side finished unbeaten in the group competition and will take on last year’s runner-up Solove in the opening semi-final today at 9am.
In the other semis, Tabia which has the services of former Labasa rep Faiyaz Khan will play former Savusavu rep Mohammed Istikar Ali led Batinikama.
Tournament organising secretary Mohammed Sareem expects both semi-finals to go down to the wire.
“It will be an interesting clash. Solove has lost only a match but they are still a good side,” Sareem said.
“Tabia and Batinikama is equal match and it will be interesting to see who reigns supreme.”
Meanwhile, Supervisor of Elections Mohammed Saneem, who was the chief guest at the tournament opening dinner on Thursday, gave a trophy and $500 for the most disciplined team.
The Vanua Cup is organised by the Labasa Muslim Sports and Social Club and features migrants from Vanua Levu, who team up with their Viti Levu counterparts to represent their home teams.
The winner will get $1500 in cash with the Vanua Cup while the runner-up receives $500 in cash plus a trophy. Entry is free.
