Businesswoman Mere Naulumatua Samisoni was sworn in this morning as the newest Opposition Member of Parliament.

Ms Samisoni was sworn in under the Social Democratic Liberal Party (SODELPA) succeeding Niko Nawaikula who lost his seat in Parliament and now ruled out of contesting the 2022 General Election.

She holds a Doctorate and Master’s degree in Business Administration, and she also owns Hot Bread Kitchen.

In her maiden speech, Ms Samisoni encouraged her colleagues in the August House to do their best when given the opportunity.

She said her few days in parliament will be utilised to make meaningful contributions that provide solutions for the nation’s development.

“I will want to present for Government’s consideration the importance of allowing businesses to do what we do best without much interference by way of restrictive legislation,” Ms Samisoni said.

“We must be the solution, not part of the problem,” she added.
