SAMISONI Mara stole the spotlight during the Ba Golf Club’s 2024 season closing ceremony, held at the FSC Golf Club on Sunday night.
The Kadavu native, who resides at Line 25 in the FSC compound near the golf course, capitalized on his location to refine his skills, earning multiple skills throughout the season.
Mara claimed the monthly medal titles for July and September, won the B Grade category for the season, and secured the silver medal in the Gold Rush competition. He also received the nearest to the pin.
Reflecting on his success, Mara expressed gratitude and optimism.
“I want to thank God for this award and for me it’s easy living beside the golf course and practicing is an advantage for me.
“Next year I will come out stronger and better prepared,” Mara said.
The 2024 season closing, sponsored by Amins Insurance Services and New India Assurance, saw remarkable performances across the board. The Magic Breakers team emerged as champions with a score of 53, featuring players Anaya Saanvi, Prakrit Naidu, Divnesh Goundar, and Asish Chand. They were followed closely by the Blues team, consisting of Joeli Dakunimata, Ashwin Sharma, Sanjay Sharma, and Sunil Sharma, who took second place with a score of 54. The Amin Insurance team, with members Indra Warjan, Smita Warjan, Jyoti Lal, and Has Raj Parmar, finished third with 55.
In the individual club championships, Asish Chand was crowned the A Grade winner, with Ashwin Sharma as the runner-up. Samisoni Mara took top honors in the B Grade category, finishing ahead of Brendan Daniel. Prakrit Naidu won the C grade.
For the prestigious Gold Rush competition, Rohit Chandra claimed the gold medal, followed by Samisoni Mara with silver, and Raven Kumar earning the bronze.
Mara’s stellar performance throughout the year was highlighted by his victories in the monthly medal competitions for July and September. Other monthly winners included Raven Kumar in June, Damon Chen in August, and Rohit Chandra in October.
Professional golfer Lotawa Delana received the longest drive award.
