Roneil Sami won the NWBSA Lautoka Open Snooker tournament over the weekend, defeating his brother Muni Sami 3-2 in a thrilling final at the Lautoka Club.
Roneil’s victory earned him $1000 in prizemoney and a trophy, while Muni walked away with $500 and a trophy as the runner-up.
The semi-finals saw Roneil overcome Scotty 3-1, while Muni edged Esala Talebula 3-2 in a closely contested match.
Earlier in the quarter-finals, Roneil defeated Tarun 3-1, and Muni triumphed over David 3-1.
Scotty and Talebula also advanced with wins over Salen Raju and Anant Raj, respectively.
Quarter-finalists were awarded $100 each, and semi-finalists took home $200 each.
The tournament, sponsored by Singh’s Rental, attracted 34 players from across Fiji and has been confirmed as an annual event to coincide with the Lautoka Club AGM week.
The NWBSA thanked all players for their participation and announced plans for more open tournaments in the coming months.
These events will serve as ranking tournaments with the top 16 players set to qualify for the Champion v Champion competition in April next year.
