A RUTHLESS defence will be key this weekend as the Fiji 7s team defends the HSBC Cape Town 7s title this weekend.

Head coach Gareth Baber said hard lessons from last week’s dismal start to the season in Dubai would be a driving factor for the defending series champions.

“When we are hurt we often produce our best performances and we get to do something about it a week later,” said Baber.

After reviewing their performance in Dubai, Baber said each player knew what areas they needed to address.

He said their defence would be tightened this weekend.

“Our ability to score tries has not left us.

“We have to get more ruthless and tighter in terms of defence, and control games when we haven’t got the ball,” Baber said.
