THE major sponsor of the Burenitu rugby 7s tournament wants next year’s competition to make an impact on the development of rugby in Ra Province.
Hideaway Resort and Spa wants former national rugby reps who come from the province to help in the tournament.
After the general manager of Fiji Hideaway Resort and Spa, Chandra Dutt, announced the increase of the sponsorship money next year, the resort also called for the improvement in the service and development of the tournament.
“Next year we will increase the prize money to $5000 and make some changes of lifting the standard of the competition,” said Dutt.
Former Fiji 7s rep Neumi Nanuku acknowledged the sponsors for bringing rugby development to their doorsteps.
“I thank the sponsors for this opportunity where our teams can play against some of the big teams and renowned players in Fiji and that will boost their knowledge in sevens,” Nanuku said.
“We hardly have this chance of playing against big teams and when given this opportunity, I would ask the clubs in Ra to give their best and learn as much as they could.
“We don’t have this often and that’s why having this tournament in our territory really helps us to grow in rugby.”
Some of the former national rugby reps who are from the province include Ratu Emori Bolobolo, Sireli Bobo and Nanuku.
