NAUSORI Special School celebrated World Down Syndrome Day with students, parents, and teachers today to create more awareness about this form of disability.

Opposition member and Shadow Minister for Education and Heritage Ro Teimumu Kepa was the chief guest at the event, attended as well by students and teachers from neighbouring schools in Nausori, together with officials from the Education Ministry.

Ro Teimumu called for an education commission to be set up in the country to look at the demands of special needs school.

She said many people were not aware of this disability and the celebration was a way to bring about more insight to it.

“The potential is there for them to showcase the talents and abilities they have and today was a day to bring about the awareness,” Ro Teimumu said.
